📖 Story: The Turkey Who Shared His Corn

By Church House Collection Store © All Rights Reserved.

Georgie the Turkey loved two things more than anything else — corn and his big, bright necktie! Every morning, he tied it neatly around his neck and looked in the mirror. “Perfect!” he’d say with a smile.

On Thanksgiving morning, Georgie woke up early. He stretched his wings, put on his favorite tie, and went to the kitchen. “It’s time to share,” he said cheerfully.

He cooked up a big pot of golden corn on the stove and poured it into a warm container. Then he packed it up and set out on a special mission — to share his Thanksgiving corn with all his friends.

First, he stopped at the barn.
“Good morning, Mr. Horse!” Georgie said.
“Well, good morning, Georgie!” said Mr. Horse.
“I brought some corn to share!” Georgie said proudly.
Mr. Horse smiled and said, “Why, thank you, Georgie! God sure gives us plenty, doesn’t He?”

Next, Georgie walked to the pond. He saw fish swimming and frogs hopping around.
“Hello, friends!” Georgie called. “I brought you some corn for Thanksgiving!”
The frogs ribbited with joy, and the fish splashed their tails. “Thank you, Georgie! God gives us good food and good friends!”

Then Georgie headed to the muddy puddle where the pig family lived.
“Muddy Thanksgiving, everyone!” Georgie said, laughing.
“Come on in!” said the piglets.
Georgie handed out corn to each of them. “God wants us to share what we have,” he said kindly.

Just then, a pack of raccoons came out of the woods.
“Georgie!” one called. “Do you have any corn left?”
“Of course I do!” said Georgie with a grin. “There’s always enough when we share.”

Georgie gave everyone a warm serving of corn and reminded them, “Let’s thank God today for the food and blessings He gives us every day.”

When Georgie got home that evening, he lit a small candle, opened his Bible, and said,
“Thank You, God, for a good Thanksgiving day — and for teaching me how to share.”

The End.

Today we learned about Georgie the Turkey, who shared his corn with his friends and thanked God for His blessings! 🦃🌽
Ask your child to tell you one way they can share what they have with someone this week — just like Georgie did!

💛 Teacher Reflection:

This lesson helps children understand that sharing and thankfulness are both ways to show God’s love in everyday life.
As you watch the children create their crafts or sing “Georgie Shared His Corn,” you’ll notice how naturally they smile, laugh, and help one another — just like Georgie shared with his friends.

The clapping, singing, and joyful chatter all carry one simple truth: God loves hearts that share.
It’s a beautiful reminder that small acts — a kind word, a helping hand, or even a few pieces of “shared corn” — can plant seeds of love that grow far beyond the classroom.

Encourage their excitement to give, celebrate their kindness, and model what it means to live with a thankful heart that shares. 💛

How Everyone Can Join In – Adaptive Learning Ideas (Inclusive for All Abilities by ChurchHouseCollection.com

💖 How Everyone Can Join In – Adaptive Learning Ideas (Inclusive for All Abilities)

📖 Story Time:

  • For children who cannot turn pages or hold props, let them choose (verbally or by eye gaze) which animal Georgie should visit next in the story.

  • Use audio cues or sound effects (horse neigh, frog ribbit, raccoon chatter) to make the story interactive.

  • If a child can’t move independently, place textures within reach of their helper or support staff — like feathers, a piece of corn, or soft fabric — so they can feel the story through touch or assistance.

  • Provide tactile props — a toy turkey, small corn pieces, or a soft fabric tie — so every child can engage with the story as you read.

🎨 Craft:

  • Children without arms or limited hand mobility can use an adaptive head pointer, mouth stylus, or eye-gaze device to help select colors or direct a helper.

  • A helper can glue or place pieces based on the child’s choices (pointing with eyes, head nods, or verbal cues).

  • Allow them to use textured materials like puffed paint, tissue paper, or real corn kernels that can be touched or felt with assistance.

  • Reinforce that their creative direction makes the craft their own — even if someone else helps assemble it.

🎲 Activity:

  • If the group plays “Pass the Blessing,” children who can’t physically pass the corn can participate by choosing who receives it next or by using eye gaze to indicate the direction.

  • Helpers can move the object on their behalf, saying “(Name) is passing their blessing to (Name)!”

  • Every child can share something they’re thankful for — either spoken, through communication devices, or by choosing a picture from a set of thankful items (like food, family, sunshine).

🎵 Song:

  • Children without arms or legs can still join the rhythm through eye blinking, humming, breathing along with the beat, or tapping sounds using assistive switches.

  • Encourage them to move in their own special way — even a facial expression, smile, or head nod can be part of the worship.

  • A helper can gently hold their hand or move a lightweight scarf to the music to help them feel included in the motion.

🍎 Snack:

  • If a child cannot feed themselves, a helper or teacher can describe each step aloud: “We’re scooping the corn now. It smells warm and buttery.”

  • Children can participate by choosing who to share their cup of corn with, or simply watching and smiling as others enjoy sharing together.

  • The teacher can reinforce: “You are part of this sharing too — God loves when we share joy!”

🙏 Prayer:

  • Allow nonverbal children to use visual cues like bowing their head, closing eyes, or lighting a small LED candle to symbolize prayer.

  • A helper can gently guide their hand or use a switch to play a soft “Amen” sound when the prayer ends.

  • The teacher can say:
💬 “God hears every prayer — spoken, signed, smiled, or silent.”

🌈 Overall Inclusion Goal:
Every child can reflect God’s love — through words, gestures, eye contact, or quiet presence. The goal is never perfection, but participation. Encourage patience, laughter, and teamwork as your class celebrates that sharing God’s love is something everyone can do.

🌈 Encouragement for the Whole Class:
Before starting, remind the children:
💬 “God loves every way we share and show kindness! Some of us can dance, some can clap, some can smile — and all of it makes God happy!”
