Thankfulness
✨ Bible Verse (Toddler-Friendly)
"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good." – Psalm 107:1
⭐ Main Point to Repeat
“I can thank God for all the good things He gives me!”
📚 Toddler Story
Bill the Candy Corn was bright and cheerful. Every fall, he loved to walk around the pumpkin patch and gather colorful leaves. 🍁🍂 Red, orange, yellow, brown—Bill collected them all. He put them carefully into his glass jar and held it close.
One day his friend asked, “Bill, why do you keep all those leaves?”
Bill smiled. “Every leaf is a reminder of something I can thank God for. This red one reminds me of my warm blanket. The yellow one makes me think of sunshine. The orange one is for my yummy snacks. The brown one is for my family who loves me.”
Bill’s jar wasn’t just full of leaves—it was full of thanks! 💛
And every night, Bill looked at his jar and whispered, “Thank You, God, for all these good things.”

🌟 Adaptive Learning – How Everyone Can Join In
Children of all abilities can enjoy and participate in this lesson. Below are specific ways to include children with limited mobility, nonverbal communication, or children without arms or legs.
📚 Story Time
-
Use large visual props (big candy corn cutout, jar, and leaves).
-
For children without arms or legs: let them “choose” leaves using eye gaze, head nod, or a yes/no board.
-
For nonverbal children: offer picture cards (family, sun, snack, leaf) so they can participate by pointing or gazing at the correct picture when asked.
🎲 Activity – Leaf Jar Thankful Game
-
Instead of placing a leaf physically, a helper can hold 2 leaves up and the child can choose by looking, blinking, or signaling with voice buttons.
-
Children with limited mobility can direct a helper (“put it in the jar”) using their eyes, smile, or an adaptive switch.
🎨 Craft – Candy Corn Thankfulness Jar
-
Pre-cut the candy corn shape and paper leaves.
-
For children without arms, allow them to pick colors by gaze or voice button (“orange,” “yellow”).
-
A helper can glue while the child chooses placement (e.g., “top,” “bottom,” “left,” “right”) using picture cards.
🖍️ Coloring Page
-
Tape the page to the table or use a clipboard for stability.
-
Children who can’t hold crayons can use adaptive crayons, a head pointer, or direct a buddy to color for them while choosing colors by gaze.
-
For nonverbal children, present 2 crayons at a time and let them select by eye gaze or blinking.
🍎 Snack – Candy Corn Trail Mix / Popcorn Cup
-
Allow children to choose ingredients (candy corn, Goldfish, Cheerios, popcorn) using picture cards or eye gaze.
-
If unable to eat certain foods, let them hand out snacks to peers with assistance, giving them a role in snack time.
🎵 Song & Poem
-
Record the main line “Thank You, God!” on a big button switch so children without verbal speech can press it at the right time during the song.
-
Encourage rhythm participation: strap a small shaker to a foot, wrist, or wheelchair tray.
🎭 Pretend Play – Leaf Collectors
-
Instead of physically picking up leaves, children can be the “caller” who names things to thank God for while others collect.
-
Provide a big leaf poster where the child can point or gaze to “collect” their leaf.
❓ Let’s Talk About It
-
Use visual choices (pictures of Bill, leaves, jar, family).
-
For yes/no answers, allow children to respond with thumbs up, nodding, blinking, or a button switch.
🙏 Closing Prayer
-
Allow children to join in by pressing a sound button with “Amen!” recorded.
-
Or let them choose words for the prayer (like “family,” “food”) using picture cards.
💛 Inclusion Note
Even if a child does not have arms or legs, they can still fully join in using their voice, eyes, smile, or choices. Every child can point, choose, or lead in some way—because what matters most is that they are included, valued, and reminded that God made them special and loves them just the way they are.
