The Jellybean That Bounced Away! – A Silly Easter Story & Activity Lesson for Toddlers

Lesson Focus:
This playful Easter-themed lesson teaches toddlers about movement, colors, and problem-solving through an engaging read-aloud story, hands-on crafts, games, and snacks.

Story: "The Jellybean That Bounced Away!"

Jiggly the Jellybean was having the best day ever. He was sitting on top of a giant Easter basket at the Springtime Jamboree, soaking up the sunshine.

Everything was perfect—until…

BOUNCE! Someone bumped the basket, and Jiggly tumbled out.
BOUNCE! He rolled past a lemonade stand.
BOUNCE! He dodged a curious puppy who almost licked him up.

“Oh no! I have to stop rolling!” Jiggly thought.

He zipped past a chattering chipmunk trying to grab him for a snack.
He zigzagged between a group of jump-roping frogs.
He spun through the Springtime Parade, barely avoiding a tuba player’s big stomping boots.

Finally, Jiggly saw the soft, squishy grass near the playground. “If I land there, I’ll finally stop bouncing!”

With one final boing, he plopped into the grass.

A little girl picked him up and giggled. “How did you get all the way over here, little jellybean?”

She gently placed Jiggly back in the Easter basket, safe and sound.

The End

Craft: Jiggly the Jellybean Puppet

Supplies:

  • Colored paper or cardstock
  • Googly eyes
  • Markers or crayons
  • Scissors
  • Tape or glue
  • Craft stick or straw

Directions:

  1. Cut an oval shape out of cardstock to make Jiggly the Jellybean.
  2. Decorate it with googly eyes, a big smile, and colorful designs.
  3. Tape or glue a craft stick or straw to the back.
  4. Hold the stick and make Jiggly “bounce” around just like in the story!

Activity: The Great Jellybean Hunt

  • Hide colored paper jellybeans or small toy jellybeans around the room.
  • Have kids hop like a bunny or wiggle like Jiggly when they find one.
  • Each jellybean can have a fun action written on it, like:
    • "Spin in a circle!"
    • "Hop three times!"
    • "Do a silly dance!"

Game: Jiggly’s Bounce Race

  • Give each child a small bouncy ball (pretend it’s Jiggly the Jellybean).
  • Have them bounce the ball down a short track (hallway, yard, or play area).
  • The goal is to bounce it into a basket without it rolling too far away!

This game helps with hand-eye coordination, motor skills, and cause and effect.

Snack: Jellybean Color Match Treat

Ingredients:

  • Jellybeans (variety of colors)
  • Small bowls or cupcake liners
  • Yogurt or vanilla pudding

Instructions:

  1. Separate jellybeans by color into small bowls or cupcake liners.
  2. Let kids pick a jellybean, name the color, and place it on their snack.
  3. Enjoy a colorful, tasty treat while talking about the colors!

Song: "Jiggly the Jellybean" (Tune: "Wheels on the Bus")

Verse 1:
Jiggly the jellybean bounces away,
Bounces away,
Bounces away,
Jiggly the jellybean bounces away,
All through the town!

Verse 2:
The chipmunk goes chomp, chomp, chomp,
Chomp, chomp, chomp,
Chomp, chomp, chomp,
The chipmunk goes chomp, chomp, chomp,
But Jiggly rolls away!

Verse 3:
The parade goes march, march, march,
March, march, march,
March, march, march,
The parade goes march, march, march,
And Jiggly rolls on by!

Repeat with fun movements like spinning, hopping, or wiggling!

Parent Resource: Learning Through Movement

Encouraging movement in learning helps boost memory, focus, and coordination in toddlers. Try these simple at-home activities:
Color races: Have kids run and touch something the same color as a jellybean.
Bounce and count: Bounce a small ball and count the bounces together.
Story re-enactment: Let kids pretend to be Jiggly, rolling and bouncing through the house.

These activities reinforce learning in a fun, active way!

Lesson Wrap-Up:

Today, we helped Jiggly the Jellybean on his bouncing adventure! Through storytelling, crafts, movement, and snacks, toddlers practiced problem-solving, color recognition, and movement skills.
