Toddler-Friendly Story:

The Sparkler Who Shared Her Light

It was the Fourth of July, and the sky was full of pops, booms, and crackles. The big fireworks were ready to roar and dazzle.

But down in a small box sat Flicka, a tiny red sparkler.

She peeked out and sighed.
“I’m not loud. I’m not big. I don’t even go BOOM.”

The other fireworks shouted, “Get ready to shine, Flicka!”

But Flicka shook her sparkly little tip.
“I don’t think anyone will notice me.”

Just then, the sky grew dark… and so did the park.

All the children were quiet. The big fireworks were too loud, and some of the little ones began to cry.

Flicka felt a warm tug in her heart.
“I may be little, but I can still shine.”

So she sparkled gently.

Ssssshhh-ssszzz!
Soft, twinkly light danced in the air.

The littlest kids smiled. One whispered, “I like that one best.”

Flicka glowed with joy.
She wasn’t loud, but she was kind.
And her light brought peace.

That night, Flicka learned:
Even small lights can share Jesus’ love.

Activity:

Sparkler Kindness Walk

  • Have kids gently walk around the room like Flicka, sparkling with kindness.

  • Call out “SHARE!” and they freeze to act out a kind motion (like offering a toy, hugging, waving).

  • Then say, “SHARE JESUS’ LOVE!” and they shine again!

Flicka the Sparkler Puppet

  • Silver pipe cleaners or metallic ribbon

  • Yellow, orange, or gold tissue paper (cut in strips)

  • Googly eyes and markers

  • Label sticker:
“I can share Jesus’ love!” – Philippians 2:15

Directions:

  1. Make the Sparkler:
Wrap the top of the craft stick with silver pipe cleaner or tape metallic ribbon around it.

  2. Add Sparkle Strips:
Glue or tape tissue paper strips to flutter like a sparkler.

  3. Decorate the Face:
Add googly eyes and draw a happy face on the stick.

  4. Add the Verse:
Attach the label or help the kids write the verse on the stick.

  5. Wave and Shine:
Kids wave their sparkler gently as they say:
    “I can share Jesus’ love!”

Song: "I AM A SPARKLER"

🎵 To the tune of “You Are My Sunshine”
I am a sparkler, a gentle sparkler,
I shine with Jesus, kind and bright.
Even if I’m tiny, I can be mighty—
By sharing love and shining light!

🎵 You Are My Sunshine (Traditional Version)

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away

Poem:

Flicka’s Light
Flicka was small, her light was sweet,
But Jesus made her shine so neat.
She sparkled soft and helped kids smile,
And shared His love the quiet style!

Pretend Play Game:

Sparkler Picnic
Set out a picnic blanket and pretend picnic items.
Kids pretend to share food and drinks, each time saying:
“I can share Jesus’ love!”
(Encourage even quiet kids to participate with gestures or smiles.)

Snack Idea:

Sparkler Sticks

  • Use pretzel rods dipped in white chocolate, rolled in red, white, and blue sprinkles.

  • Say before eating:
“Thank You, Jesus, for Your love I can share!”

How Everyone Can Praise:

Children with limited movement can praise by:

  • Smiling

  • Listening and thinking joyful thoughts

  • Watching the sparkler shine and whispering (or thinking),
    “Jesus, I love You”

  • Wiggling fingers or blinking as a sign of praise
Let them know: Your heart can shine for Jesus, too!

Closing Prayer (Repeat After Me):

Dear Jesus,
Thank You for loving me.
Help me share Your love
With a gentle sparkle.
Even when I’m small,
I can shine for You!
Amen!

Optional Take-Home Note for Parents:

Today your child met Flicka, a gentle sparkler who didn’t think she was special — until she shared her soft light and helped others feel calm and joyful. This lesson taught that we can all share Jesus’ love, no matter our size or style. Ask your child to show you how they sparkle for Jesus!
