The Donut That Rolled Away — And Found Jesus! Sunday School Lesson Plan For Toddlers

Story: "The Donut That Rolled Away — And Found Jesus!"

Once upon a time, in a cozy little bakery, there was a happy donut named Dolly. Dolly had pink frosting and lots of colorful sprinkles.

Every morning, Dolly loved to sit on the bakery shelf with her donut friends. But one day, Dolly got curious. She thought, "I wonder what’s out there beyond the bakery?"

So Dolly gave herself a little wiggle... and down she rolled!

"Wheeee!" Dolly laughed as she rolled across the floor. Out the door she went, down the sidewalk, and into the big world.

At first, Dolly was having fun. She rolled past flowers, birds, and butterflies. But soon, Dolly realized something — she was all alone.

"Oh no," Dolly said. "I don’t know how to get back to the bakery. I think I'm lost."

She rolled a little more, but she felt scared and lonely.

Just then, a little bird flew down next to Dolly. The bird tilted its head and chirped a sweet song.

Dolly watched the bird and felt a little better. She remembered how the baker used to play songs in the morning, and she thought, "I’m not really alone. Someone is watching over me."

The bird chirped again and began to fly slowly, as if showing Dolly the way.

Dolly thought, "Maybe I should follow the bird."

So she rolled carefully behind the bird. Around the corner, past a tree, and—
There it was! The bakery!

"I found my way home!" Dolly cheered.

As she rolled back onto the shelf, her donut friends gathered around. "Where did you go, Dolly? We missed you!"

Dolly smiled and said, "I rolled away, but something helped me find my way back. And I think... even when I was alone, I wasn’t really alone. I think God was watching over me."

The donuts all smiled, and Dolly knew in her heart that God’s love had guided her home.

From that day on, Dolly remembered: Even when we feel lost, God is always near, and He helps us find our way.

  3. Optional: Add a paper path or little feet around the donut to show how it "rolled away."

Talk while crafting:
"Sometimes we feel lost or sad, but Jesus always finds us and loves us. Just like Dolly the Donut, we can be happy because Jesus is always near!"

Song (To the tune of 'Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star'):

Jesus, Jesus loves me so,
Never lets me roll alone.
If I’m lost or far away,
Jesus finds me when I pray.
Jesus, Jesus loves me so,
Never lets me roll alone.

Closing Prayer (Repeat After Me Style):

Dear Jesus,
Thank You for loving me.
Thank You for finding me when I’m lost.
Help me remember You are always with me.
I love You, Jesus!
Amen.

Optional Take-Home Note for Parents:

Today we learned from Dolly the Donut that Jesus always finds us and loves us! Ask your child to show you their donut craft and share how Jesus loves them!
