Toddler-Friendly Story:
The Chick Who Tried to Pray Like a Grown-Up
One little chick named Button saw the grown-up chickens bowing their heads and praying with big, fancy words.
He puffed up his feathers and said, “Dear Holy Glorious Everlasting Omnipresent...” but he didn’t even know what those words meant!
Button tried to pray again. “Um… Dear… most magnificent… umm… fluffy… I mean… fancy Father?”
The other chicks giggled.
Button felt embarrassed. He waddled away and hid behind a haystack. “Maybe God doesn’t want to hear from someone little like me,” he whispered.
Then his grandma hen came over. “Sweet Button, do you think God wants big words more than your little heart?”
Button looked up. “I don’t know…”
Grandma smiled. “God wants to hear you. Your silly words. Your happy words. Your honest words. Just talk to Him.”
So Button closed his eyes and said, “Hi God. I love You. I’m sorry I was being silly. Thanks for listening.”
And do you know what? God heard every word.
Because God listens to your heart—even if you're just a little chick.

I Can Talk to God (To the tune of “B-I-N-G-O”)
I don’t need fancy words to pray,
God hears me when I’m talking.
G-O-D hears me,
G-O-D hears me,
G-O-D hears me,
He listens when I’m praying!

I don’t need fancy words to say,
God hears my heart when I pray.

God wants to hear from me and you!

“Big Chick, Little Chick” Prayer Time
Let kids take turns pretending to be a “Big Chick” (pretending to use silly big words) and then a “Little Chick” who just talks from the heart. After the game, say,
“Which one did God like more? That’s right—the one from the heart!”

Mini Chick Prayer Cups
-
Use yellow pudding or applesauce cups.
-
Stick on googly eyes and a little orange triangle for a beak.
-
Before eating, say a simple prayer out loud:
“Thank You, God, for food to eat.
You are kind, and You are sweet!”
Closing Prayer (Repeat After Me):
Dear God,
Thank You for loving me.
I don’t need big words—
You hear my heart.
Help me talk to You every day.
Amen!
Optional Take-Home Note for Parents:
Today we learned that God listens to even the smallest prayers! Your child met a chick named Button who tried to pray with big, fancy words but learned that God wants honest, simple words from the heart. Try praying together with your child at bedtime using their own words. Even “Hi God, I love you” is beautiful to Him.
