With a toddler-friendly Bible story, craft, snack, pretend play, and scripture-based song, this lesson teaches kids that prayer comes from the heartânot from cupcakes! Perfect for Sunday School, preschool, childrenâs church, or homeschool.
Â
âď¸ Bible Theme:
Prayer comes from the heart
Â
đ Bible Verse (Toddler Version):
âNever stop praying.â â 1 Thessalonians 5:17
Â
đŹ Main Point to Repeat with Kids:
âGod wants to hear ME pray!â
Â
đ Toddler-Friendly Story:
âThe Chick Who Thought the Muffins Could Prayâ
Stevie the Chick had heard a lot about prayer.
Mama said to pray when he felt scared.
Grandpa said to pray when he needed help.
His big brother said, âPray when you donât know what to do!â
So Stevie decided to try it.
But Stevie was shy. He was nervous. He didnât know what words to say.
So he made a plan.
He gathered all his muffinsâblueberry, chocolate chip, banana nutâand placed them in a circle.
Then he whispered,
âOkay muffins⌠pray for me!â
He waited.
The muffins sat quietly.
They didnât blink. They didnât speak. They didnât say âAmen.â
Stevie frowned. âMaybe theyâre sleepy muffins.â
He shook a sprinkle on top. âThat should help!â
Still nothing.
So Stevie did something brave. He said out loud,
âDear God⌠I donât know what to say. But I love You. And I need You.â
Suddenly, his heart felt warm and peaceful. He smiled big.
âThatâs prayer,â said Mama Chick, peeking in. âNot muffin prayer. YOUR prayer.â
And from that day on, Stevie never asked a muffin to pray againâbecause he knew God wanted to hear from HIM.
đ˛ Activity/Game:
âPrayer Muffin Passâ
Sit in a circle and pass a (pretend) muffin around while soft music plays.
When the music stops, the child holding the muffin says:
âGod, thank You forâŚâ (and names anything!)
They can also whisper or say âAmenâ if theyâre shyâbecause prayer is from the heart.

Â
đľ Song:
âGod Wants Me to Prayâ
(Tune: âTwinkle, Twinkle, Little Starâ)
Muffins cannot pray for me,
Even if theyâre blueberry!
God wants me to say the words,
Even if theyâre soft or heard.
Prayer comes right from my heart,
God and I are never far!
Â
đ Poem:
Stevieâs Prayer Surprise
Stevie was shy, and didnât know
How to let his prayers just flow.
He lined up muffins in a rowâ
But they just sat, and didnât go!
Then Stevie said, âDear God, itâs meâŚâ
And felt as brave as he could be!
Â
đ Pretend Play Game:
âPrayer Bakeryâ
Set up a pretend muffin shop with play food or real muffin cups.
Kids âorderâ muffins and âpayâ by saying a prayer!
(Ex: âIâd like a blueberry muffin... and Iâll thank God for my dog!â)
Â
đ Closing Prayer (Repeat After Me):
Dear God,
I donât need muffins to pray.
You want to hear from me!
Even when Iâm shy,
You still listen.
Thank You for loving me.
Amen!
Â
đŹ Optional Take-Home Note for Parents:
Today we met Stevie the Chick, who learned that muffins canât prayâbut he sure can! We taught your child that prayer is simply talking to God from the heart. Encourage your child to say little prayers this week, no matter how simple they sound.
Â
đĄ What Weâre Learning:
This lesson shows that prayer doesnât have to be fancy or perfectâGod just wants to hear from us! Stevieâs silly mistake helps children understand that itâs their voice and their heart God is listening to. Based on 1 Thessalonians 5:17, this lesson reminds toddlers to pray always, even in the simplest ways.
