Thinking of others first

“Think about others!” – Philippians 2:4

Main Point to Repeat with Kids:

“I can think of others first!”

Toddler-Friendly Story: The Bunny Who Split His Popsicle in Two

Benny the Bunny loved sunny days, red boots, and especially… popsicles!

One hot summer afternoon, Benny hopped to the freezer and found a sparkly pink popsicle — his favorite.

“Mmm! This is just what I need,” he said, smiling.

Just as he was about to take a big lick, he heard sniffles behind him.

It was Tilly the Turtle, looking warm and sad.

“I came for a popsicle too… but there’s none left,” she said softly.

Benny looked at his popsicle.
He felt a little sad… but then he remembered what his mama taught him:

“God loves when we think of others first.”

He smiled and gently snapped the popsicle in half.

“Here, Tilly,” he said. “Let’s share!”

Tilly’s eyes lit up. “Really? For me?”

Benny nodded. “It’s better when we share!”

And right there, in the sunny kitchen, two friends sat side by side — giggling and licking their half-popsicles.

Tilly said, “You’re the best kind of bunny.”

Benny said, “I just wanted to be the kind God smiles at.”

Activity: Popsicle Pass Game

Sit in a circle and pass around a toy popsicle or craft stick while music plays.
When the music stops, the child holding it says:

“I can think of others first!”

Then they pass it to a friend and say something kind like:
“You can go first!” or “You’re a good friend!”

Craft: Popsicle Sharing Puppet

Supplies Needed:

  • Construction paper (popsicle shapes pre-cut in bright colors)

  • Jumbo craft sticks

  • Glue, scissors

  • Googly eyes, stickers

  • Label: “Think about others! – Philippians 2:4”

  • Optional: Let kids “break” their craft into two popsicles to give one away

Directions:

  1. Decorate two popsicle shapes — one for “me,” one to “share.”

  2. Glue each onto a craft stick.

  3. Add a smiley face and fun details.

  4. Write or glue on the Bible verse label.

  5. Let kids choose to keep one and “give” one to a classmate!

Song Title: “Let’s Share Like Bunny”

(To the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”)

Benny Bunny had a treat,
Split it up so both could eat.
He was kind and didn’t pout,
That’s what love is all about!
Jesus helps me do my part—
Share with joy and a kind heart!

Poem: Benny’s Popsicle

Benny found a summer treat,
Cold and yummy, pink and sweet.
But when he saw his friend was blue,
He split his popsicle in two!

Pretend Play Game: Popsicle Stand Helpers

Set up a pretend popsicle stand.
Let children “buy” and “share” popsicles with each other.
Each time someone shares, everyone says:
“God loves a kind heart!”

Snack Idea: Build-a-Bunny Popsicles

Use:

  • Half bananas (on sticks)

  • Dip in pink yogurt or melted white chocolate

  • Add a mini marshmallow for a tail

  • Draw a face with edible marker or food gel
    Say together:
“Thank You, God, for sweet ways to share!”

Closing Prayer (Repeat After Me):

Dear God,
Thank You for popsicles,
Thank You for friends,
Help me share with others,
And be kind like You.
Amen!

Optional Take-Home Note for Parents:

Today your child met Benny the Bunny, who shared his favorite popsicle when his friend didn’t have one. This lesson taught toddlers the importance of thinking of others first. Ask your child how they can share something this week — big or small!
