The Three Silly Ghosts and the Sock-Snatching Scarecrow Who Lived Under the Bridge - Children's Story

A Children's Story from Once Upon A Snooze Dream©
It was a chilly Halloween night, and the moon shined big and round over Spooky Hollow. The wind whistled through the trees, making the autumn leaves dance in the air. Floating through the misty breeze were three little ghostsâone pink, one blue, and one purple.
Their names were Candy, Sprinkle, and Sugar, and they were not very scary ghosts at all. In fact, they were very giggly, very silly, and always up for an adventure.
Tonight, they had a very important missionâto cross the old rickety bridge and get to the Pumpkin Patch Party! đ
âI canât wait to bob for apples!â said Candy, the pink ghost, wiggling excitedly.
âI want to eat ghost-shaped cookies!â Sprinkle, the blue ghost, cheered.
âAnd I want to see the biggest pumpkin in the patch!â added Sugar, the purple ghost.
But there was just one problemâŠ
The Bridge and the Sock-Snatching Scarecrow
The three ghosts floated up to the bridge, but as soon as they started to crossâ
STOMP! STOMP! STOMP!
Something big and creaky stepped out from under the bridge.
It was a scarecrow! But not just any scarecrowâthis one was tall, patchy, and had hay sticking out from his arms and legs. His eyes were button eyes, and his mouth was stitched into a crooked grin.
But the strangest part?
He had SOCKS tied all over him! Spooky socks! Striped socks! Pumpkin socks! Even tiny socks with little bats on them! đ§Š
âHALT!â the scarecrow bellowed, waving his strawy arms. âI am Sir Snatchington the Sock-Snatching Scarecrow! And no oneâI repeat, NO ONEâcrosses this bridge unless they bring me a spooky sock!â
The three ghosts blinked at him.
âA⊠spooky sock?â Candy asked.
âYes! A sock with stripes, bats, pumpkins, or something SPOOK-TACULAR!â Sir Snatchington declared.
Sprinkle looked at Sugar.
Sugar looked at Candy.
Candy looked at Sprinkle.
âGhosts donât wear socks,â Sugar finally said.
Sir Snatchington gasped.
âWhat do you MEAN ghosts donât wear socks? Thatâs outrageous! Ridiculous! Impossible!â
âGhosts donât have feet!â Sprinkle explained, wiggling his floaty bottom in the air.
Sir Snatchington gasped againâthis time even louder.
âNo feet?! Thatâs a tragedy! A disaster! A total sock catastrophe!â
âBut we HAVE to get across the bridge!â Candy pleaded. âWeâre going to the Pumpkin Patch Party!â
Sir Snatchington crossed his straw arms and shook his head.
âNO SOCK, NO CROSS!â
The Three Ghosts Come Up with a Plan
The ghosts huddled together and started whispering.
âWhat are we gonna do?â Candy asked.
âWe need a sock!â Sugar said.
âBut we donât HAVE socks!â Sprinkle groaned. âWeâre ghosts!â
Then Candy gasped.
âWAIT! I have an idea!â
She zipped away so fast that she whooshed through the trees like a pink fog!
A few minutes later, she came floating backâholding something behind her back.
Sir Snatchington tapped his foot.
âWell? Do you have my spooky sock?â
Candy grinned.
âEven better! TA-DA!â
She held up a giant, stretched-out spiderweb! đžïž
Sir Snatchington squinted.
âThatâs not a sock.â
âItâs BETTER than a sock!â Candy said. âItâs a ghostly sock!â
âA⊠ghostly sock?â Sir Snatchington asked.
âYEP!â Sprinkle chimed in. âWe donât wear regular socks, but we DO wear spooky, floaty, see-through socksâjust like this one!â
Sir Snatchington gasped for the third time (his gasps were getting longer and louder).
âA ghost sock?! Iâve NEVER had a ghost sock before!â
He snatched the spiderweb and carefully wrapped it around his leg.
Then he posed dramatically.
âOooooooh,â he whispered. âI look SO HAUNTINGLY FASHIONABLE!â
âYou sure do!â Sugar said.
Sir Snatchington twirled in place, admiring his new ghost sock.
âWell, rules are rules! Youâve given me a spooky sock, so you may PASS!â
The three ghosts cheered and zoomed across the bridge.
âTHANK YOU, SIR SNATCHINGTON!â they called.
Sir Snatchington waved as they floated away, still admiring his new sock.
âSO SPOOKY! SO STYLISH!â
The Pumpkin Patch Party đ
The three ghosts finally made it to the Pumpkin Patch Party!
They bobbed for apples, ate ghost-shaped cookies, and Sugar even found the biggest pumpkin in the patch!
And across the bridge, back under his post, Sir Snatchington sat happily, wearing his very first ghost sock.
And from that night on, he never stopped telling everyone about it.
âDid you know I OWN A GHOST SOCK?!â he would say.
And no one ever crossed the bridge without hearing the whole story.
đđ€ The End
Goodnight, little dreamer. May your socks always be spooky and your stories always be sweet.
