📘 Toddler-Friendly Story:
“The Turtle Who Dropped His Tacos”
Toby the Turtle loved Taco Tuesday.
He loved it so much, he did a happy wiggle every time he smelled cheesy tacos in the air.
But this Tuesday… was a mess.
As Toby carried his taco plate out of the kitchen — SPLAT!
One taco slid off.
“Oh no,” he muttered, “It’s okay. I still have two more.”
He kept walking.
SPLAT! Another one hit the floor.
Toby blinked. His lip quivered.
He reached the table and…
SPLAT! The last taco flopped off the plate and rolled across the floor like a sad little shell.
Toby froze. He wanted to cry. He wanted to stomp. He wanted to SCREAM.
But instead, he whispered:
“Dear God, I feel upset. Can You help me not panic?”
And right then, he remembered something his mom told him:
“God cares when you’re upset. You can tell Him anything.”
So Toby took a deep breath.
He picked up the tacos.
He wiped off the mess.
And guess what?
His family surprised him with two extra tacos... and one with double cheese.
“God,” he prayed with a smile, “Thank You for caring about my tacos… and my heart.”
🎲 Activity/Game:
“Taco Toss Troubles!”
Let kids toss (fake) paper tacos (or beanbags) into bowls.
Miss one? That’s okay!
Each time they miss, have them say:
🗣️ “God cares when I’m upset!”
This game teaches them that mistakes are okay — and God still loves them when things go wrong.

🎵 Song:
“God Cares When I’m Upset”
(Sing to the tune of “The Farmer in the Dell”)
When tacos hit the ground,
When tacos hit the ground,
I feel sad, I feel mad—
But God is still around!
I pray and take a breath,
I pray and take a breath,
God listens to my tiny heart
And helps me through the mess!
📝 Poem:
Toby’s Taco Prayer
Toby had some taco dreams,
But things went wrong—or so it seemed.
He dropped his snack and felt real blue,
But talked to God—just like me and you!
And in the middle of his mess,
God showed up to love and bless.
🎭 Pretend Play Game:
“Turtle Talk Time”
Let kids crawl around like turtles carrying paper plates with pretend tacos.
Every time a taco “falls,” they pause and pretend to pray:
“Dear God, I’m sad… but I know You care.”
Encourages calm reactions and faith-based thinking.
🙏 Closing Prayer (Repeat After Me):
Dear God,
Sometimes things go wrong.
I drop my stuff.
I feel upset.
But You always care.
Help me stop, pray, and trust You.
Amen!
📬 Optional Take-Home Note for Parents:
Today we met Toby the Turtle, who had a very bad taco day! But instead of panicking, he prayed. We learned that when things go wrong, we can give our worries to God — because He really does care about every little moment. Encourage your child to talk to God this week when they feel upset or overwhelmed.
💡 What We’re Learning:
This story teaches preschoolers that God is always near — even in silly, messy moments like dropped tacos. Through 1 Peter 5:7, children learn that God wants them to bring their worries and feelings to Him. This lesson reinforces that prayer isn't just for big problems — it's for spilled snacks, sad feelings, and every little thing in between. God cares deeply about our hearts.
