“God keeps me safe!”
Toddler-Friendly Story: The Sunscreen That Covered Everyone
Sunny the Sunscreen stood proudly in the beach bag.
He wasn’t the fanciest bottle — not sparkly, not scented, not shaped like a starfish. But he was ready to do his job.
“I’m here to protect!” he said with a squeaky squirt.
One morning, the beach bag opened, and Sunny saw all the kids running toward the sun.
“Oh no!” he cried. “They forgot to put me on!”
The sun was getting warmer, and the sand was getting hot.
Sunny wiggled and wobbled inside the bag.
“I have to help them!” he said.
So he popped out of the bag, rolled down the towel, and landed right next to a little girl’s foot.
“Hey! The sunscreen!” she laughed. “We almost forgot!”
Soon, all the kids lined up to be covered from head to toe.
“No more sunburns!” they cheered.
As Sunny sat in the shade, he whispered,
“Thank You, God, for helping me protect my friends.”
And a soft voice in the breeze replied:
“Just like I protect you.”
Activity: Cover & Protect Game
Play a freeze-style game where one child is “the sun” and tries to tag others.
When a child gets tagged, they freeze.
Another child playing the “sunscreen” comes over and “covers” them (light tap), then says:
“God keeps you safe!”
Then they can play again!

Song Title: “God Keeps Me Safe”
(To the tune of “The Farmer in the Dell”)
God keeps me safe all day,
God keeps me safe all day.
In the sun or in the rain,
God keeps me safe all day!
He helps me every day,
He hears me when I pray,
No matter where I seem to go,
He helps me every day,
Poem: Sunny’s Job
Sunny wasn’t fancy,
Not shaped like stars or shells,
But when the sun came out to play,
He worked his job so well!
Just like God protects us,
From head down to our toes—
His love is like good sunscreen,
Wherever someone goes!
Pretend Play Game: Line Up for Sunscreen
Let kids pretend they’re at the beach.
Line up with beach towels and call out names like a lifeguard:
“Next up for sunscreen: Ella!”
Pretend to squeeze out some sunscreen on kids arm and have the child rub in the “sunscreen” while saying:
“God keeps you safe just like sunscreen!”
Kids can swap roles and help others next.
Snack Idea: Sunny Fruit Cups
Use small clear cups filled with:
-
Any type of fruit you would like: Strawberries, Blueberries, Kiwi, Pineapple, etc
-
A mini umbrella on top (optional)
Say before eating:
“Thank You, God, for keeping me safe like sunscreen!”
Closing Prayer (Repeat After Me):
Dear God,
Thank You for protecting me.
You watch over me every day.
Help me feel safe and strong,
Because You are with me.
Amen!
Optional Take-Home Note for Parents:
Today your child met Sunny the Sunscreen, who helped protect the kids at the beach. This lesson from Psalm 121:5 reminded us that God keeps us safe, just like sunscreen on a sunny day! Ask your child what Sunny did and how God watches over us too.
